Kaleidoscopes

This all started when I paid a visit to Bioephemera, one of my favorite eye candy blogs, and found this:
If they’d have made this with white rats and pigeons it could be the Skinner box from Hell. (What is the reward for whacking your head incessantly into a glass wall?)
Strangely fascinating, it led me on a bit of a search. I googled ‘kaleidoscope’ and ‘dog ‘and found this:
Cool Interactive Dog Kaleidoscope
Go there. Play with it. You’ll enjoy it if you’re reading this late on a weekend night after a few of whatever floats your boat. Especially if your chosen flotation device lies somewhere left of legal.
Floating along, I thought it would be fun to create something like this myself – but not being a geek I needed help. Searching around a bit more I found this free plugin for Photoshop Elements that let me make simple Kaleidoscopes of my own.
Check it out. I pulled a few photos up, dinked around for 15 minutes – and here are the results:

Indigo Blossom

Kelpie Kaleidoscope

Axis of Evil
While they’re not as entrancing as live birds and mice swarming into a mirrored trap or the hallucinogenic, mouse-induced swirlings of the border collie flash application – they were fun to create.

Very cool… for something a little different, check out kaleidoscope quilts (also known as one block wonder quilts).

A google image search of “one block wonders” will turn up several thousand more. The best part… they’re wicked simple to make, even from the ugliest material. :O)
